In February, 2006 Nelson County Fiscal Court started a Pilot Curbside Recycling Program. The program is available at no charge to selected populated areas. There were 300 homes who initially signed up. Currently, there are close to 460 families in the program. Through the efforts of media attention, participants spreading the word to neighbors, family, & friends, and citizens seeing the white recycling trailer rolling through their neighborhood, the program has grown over 50%. The program continues to grow every day in these neighborhoods.
