Welcome to the Nelson County Code Enforcement Department homepage. The Department was formed by county ordinance in January 2003 with permitting and inspections starting in May of the same year.
The Nelson County Code Department currently enforces the 2007 series of both the Kentucky Residential and Kentucky Building Code as adopted by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Both currently adopted uniform building codes are created from the 2006 International Residential and Building Codes series as formulated by the International Codes Council (ICC).Code Enforcement also coordinates and enforces the county drainage, sign and encroachment permitting requirements along with partial enforcement of waste management regulations as listed through the county nuisance ordinance. The Nelson County Code Department also regulates the enforcement, permitting and inspection of structures electrical/energized circuits and equipment as listed by the National Electrical Code and is further recognized by the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction in Frankfort Kentucky as an Expanded Jurisdiction Participant.
Through installation of sound building permitting and inspection procedures coupled with equitable enforcement we're making a difference in our community. The primary purpose of this department is to ensure safe minimum levels of construction through enforcement of the Uniform Building Codes as adopted by Nelson County Fiscal Court as required by the Commonwealth of Kentucky. This is closely followed by the enforcement of specific county ordinances including Planning and Zoning requirements, which provides for the orderly growth of our community.
